Several of Fairman's books under his own name were novelizations of television scripts, including The World Grabbers: A Dramatic Novel Inspired by the Popular TV Program, One Step Beyond ( 1964), and City under the Sea ( 1965), based on the film City under the Sea ( 1965 vt War Gods of the Deep 1965) (see Under the Sea). He launched the short-lived Dream World in 1957. He left Ziff-Davis in 1954 but returned in December 1955 and became editor of Amazing Stories and Fantastic from May 1956, a position he held until September 1958, when he became managing editor of Ellery Queen's Mystery Magazine (see Ellery Queen), holding this position until August 1963. He was the first editor of If, March-November 1952, but departed after four issues to join the Ziff-Davis staff. His first published sf story was "No Teeth for the Tiger" for Amazing in February 1950, and for some years thereafter he was a regular contributor to the Ziff-Davis magazines under his own name, the pseudonyms Robert Lee and Mallory Storm, and various house pseudonyms (see House Names), including E K Jarvis, Clee Garson, Ivar Jorgensen (which began as a personal pseudonym) and Paul Lohrman he also published books as by F W Paul (see below).
